While in Chattanooga, we rode the Incline Railway up to Lookout Mountain. The train cars climbs the Incline Railway at a 72.7% grade – straight up! It is the steepest passenger railway in the world! This railway is known as "America's Most Amazing Mile."
The Incline Railway first opened back in 1895. In 1911 the original coal burning steam engines were replaced by two 100-horsepower motors. This greatly decreased travel time. Other than that change, the railway has not changed much in the past 100 years!
At the top was a historical site of Civil War battles. They even do Civil War re-enactments. The battle grounds are beautiful, with breath-taking views. There was also a Civil War museum. All very interesting.
This was Dave's favorite attraction of the trip-the incline railway and walking the civil war battle grounds.
Beautiful views.
Willie came to join us since he and Shawn both had a day off from baseball.
