I have been putting off writing this post. I cannot believe that March is here and that my babies will celebrate their birthdays in a couple weeks! Andi will be 5 and Eastman will be 2. Andi is thrilled ot be turning five. That means that she gets to start kindergarten soon. What?! How can it be?! Hard for me to grasp too that Eastman is no longer a baby. He is a big boy!
Here are a few cute funnies from the past couple months for Andi.
Andi Lynn
One day when Dave was singing loudly in the kitchen while washing dishes (something Dave does often. Have a mentioned how great my husband is?), Andi said to him, "Daddy, I love your singing, but can you please stop." This made me laugh out loud. I thought this this was such a sweet way to ask him to stop. Compliment him first so that he will agree to honor her request.
Andi, Eastman, and I were driving home and Andi out of nowhere said that she wanted to be a Paleontologist when she grows up. She first said Archeologist and then corrected herself because she said that she would rather be a Paleontolgist so that she can dig up dinosaur bones and the bones of Sabertooth tigers (one of her favorite things to read about right now).
"What about me?" Is a phrase that we have heard from Andi a few times the past couple of months. We are really trying to encourage Eastman and brag on how well he has done something. Well, my sweet Andi, who does what we ask (usually without a whole lot of encouragement), wants to be acknowledged too. So after we talk about how well Eastman has done something, Andi will chime in with, "What about me?" We then make it a big deal to brag about how well she has done too.
At times when we are asking Estman to do (or not do) something, Andi will say, "Look. Andi is doing it." Or she will say, "Andi's not...(fill in the blank)" I think she likes that her brother wants to be like her and that she can set a good example for him.
A week or so ago, Dave had shaved his face and Andi said, "Oh no, Daddy! You weren't supposed to shave your beard! You and Uncle Shane and Uncle Shawn are having a beard growing contest to see who can grow the longest beard." I think Dave liked the idea of this (any excuse to grow a beard or moustache). Not sure where Andi came up with this idea, but it was news to all three of the men involved in this challenge.
We officially have a soccer player in the family! Andi has registered for soccer and is so excited. Ask her about it and she will gladly tell you all about her team, name, colors, jersey, number, ball, teammates, coach, etc. She is on a team with one of her best friends, Maggie. There are also a couple of other girls that go to Cottonwood Creek KidCare so I think Andi appreciates having a few familiar faces. The team name is Killa Beez and as the name suggests, their colors are yellow and black. Andi was a little anxious about her first practice, but once she got there she loved every minute of it. I think it helped that Maggie is on the same team. The next week, she was so excited about having practice. They have practices on Thursday and she woke up talking about how she has soccer practice that day. Even Eastman at breakfast was saying, "Yay! Andi soccer practice. Me excited." Well, it was rainy, windy, and cold that afternoon so practice was cancelled. Andi and Eastman were both disappointed. I love it that Andi is excited about learning and playing this new sport. So fun!
This girl loves to dress up. If I ask her to go get dressed, 99% of the time she will pick out a dress to wear. I have learned that I need to tell her ahead of time if it is cold outside and that arms and legs must be covered. She still usually picks a dress and will wear leggings underneath and a sweater over the top. When we get home, one of the first things she does is go upstairs and change clothes. It used to be that she would go and put on a dress-up dress. Now she will pull an actual dress out of her closet and put it on, with matching headband and shoes. After school yesterday, I think she changed clothes four times prior to dinner. I love seeing what she puts together and I love that she likes to be girly and get dressed up. Yet, she can still run and get dirty and play hard too. She has gotten Eastman excited about playing dress up. He will run upstairs and say, "Me dress-up. Me a superhero." Andi will help him into his super hero costume and he will even wear the mask! Another fun dress up thing for them this past week has been to put on swimsuit and pretend to go swimming. Andi puts her swimsuit on and then helps Eastman into his swimsuit. This week that has cracked me up because there is snow on the ground, yet the kids are playing around the house in their swimsuits. I actually appreciate Andi wanting to put on their swimsuits because now I know that they still fit and I do not need to rush out and buy new ones before spring break.
Here are some things that Eastman has been up to or saying the past couple months.
Eastman Rex
Eatman can now say anything. Really! He talks all the time. At times what he says may not be clearly understood. But when it says it again, you will know what he is saying. He is persistant and will keep saying it until you get it or he gets what he wants.
I love when he is proud of what he has accomplished, because he will say,"Ta-da!" with hands up in the air.
How is it that a baby, less than two years old, has mastered using the iPad? It really is amazing how well Eastman can navigate through turning it on and opening his apps and playing the games.
12/21: Sings Jesus loves me (Made me smile when I heard him on the baby moniter singing it in his crib in the morning.)
12/29: His favorite color orange. He tends to pick out things that are orange and when in doubt, when I ask him what color something is, he says "Orange." He knows his colors pretty well, but somethings he draws a blank and will just say orange if unsure.
1/1: We went to dinner and when the waitress asked me what he would like to drink, he ordered for himself: chocolate milk and water and the waitress understood him and repeated his order. Not too shy is he?.
Slept til 8:30! This is a huge one for him. He has not ever slept in.
1/8: Maybe this means that we eat out too much, but I still think this is impressive. Eastman ordered his entire meal. I asked him what he wanted to eat for dinner and he ordered chocolate milk and water then a cheeseburger, French fries, and corn. He said it all very clearly and was not shy one bit. This even made the waiter smile and say something about he knows what he wants to eat.
1/20: Can count to thirteen
2/8: Emily at church, stopped me on our way out and said she just had to tell me about something Eastman did in the nursery today. I have to admit that my heart sank a little (even thought he has always done great in the church nursery, but at school we have gotten a few reports of him pushing other kids). She said that there was another little boy who was trying to take away from Eastman. The boy then cried because he did not get what he wanted. Eastman saw the boy crying, walked over to him, and gave him the toy so that he wouldn't cry. What a sweet boy!
2/16: Well it happened. Eastman climbed out of his crib for the first time this night. Not just once, but twice in the night. Eastman has had a hard time sleeping at night for about a month now. Ever since he got sick this winter on four seperate occasions with RSV, then the flu, then RSV, then a double ear infection and reactive airway. Since dealing with all of this, it has really interupted his sleep. He has been a pretty good sleeper, but lately this is not the case. He usually goes to sleep just fine but wakes up in a panic that he is in a room all by himself. He will cry out for Momma or Daddy. He will say, "Momma where are you? Open door! What you do? Where are you?" He really is in a panic and one of us have to go into his room and calm him down and hold him. But now that he can crawl out of his crib, we may have to come up with a new game plan.
This boy is considerate and is always asking about where family and friends are. He now associates people with those they belong with. Like Gram and Grandavs, Nana and Papa, Shawn, Lynley, Turner, and Bear, Uncle Crazy, Crystal, Sutton, and Callyn, and so forth.
2/17: Since Eastman crawled out of his crib twice the night before, Dave decided to turn his crib into a toddler bed. It came with the conversion kit, so we removed the front part of the crib and then put on the short half rail so that he could get in and out of the bed. The bed is low to the floor. He thought this was great fun and so did Andi.
2/21: Well, the toddler bed did not work well for us. Eastman decided that it was way too easy and fun to get out of his bed. He would not stay in his bed and it was exhausting to go upstairs over and over to put him back in bed and sit with him until he would go to sleep. He is still very anxious about being alone. He falls asleep fine but if and when he wakes up he panics if no one is around. Sweet boy. So, a queen bed it is! We have put a huge queen bed in his room and have put the side rails up so that he does not roll off the bed. The bed is high enough off the ground that we think it will be easier to encourage him to stay in bed and not easy to climb out. It will take some effort.
When we put him to sleep, he knows what we expect of him, but I htink he must just wake up scared and want me or Dave to come lay with him. When we talk about Eastman sleeping in Eastman's big boy bed, he will say. "Eastman sleep in Eastman bed. Andi sleep in Andi bed." No crying. No open door." He knows what to do but it is easier said than done.
One night when putting him to bed, I would not lay in his bed with him. Said that I would stand next to his bed and hold his hand. He really wanted me to snuggle with him. He got upset with me and said, "That not nice, Momma. Not very (berry) nice at all. No be nice, Momma!" I know he was upset, but it was so cute the way he said it that it made me chuckle a little.
2/28: Hooray! Eastman actually got a full night of sleep! This is huge. That has not happened for a couple months!
A few other things that Eastman loves right now are open flap books. He loves to sing. His favorite song is Frosty the Snowman. He also likes to sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, ABCs, Jesus loves me, Baa Baa Black Sheep, and Let it Go.
Andi is now signed up for soccer and Eastman is almost equally thrilled about it as Andi is. He will say. Andi have soccer practice? Me excited!" I love that he is already ready to cheer on big sister. He is her biggest fan for sure! Admires her so much and tries to immitate everything she does and says.
He has become a fan of the book, Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See?... He likes to use that phrasing for other things too. "Momma, Momma what do you see?" Etc.
