Winter Park-spring break 2017

We had a fabulous time in Winter Park for spring break.  Don and Linda were generous enough to let us go to their house again for a ski trip!  We are really loving Colorado!  The kids had a wonderful time playing in the snow in the backyard.  We built a snowman, Eastman shoveled snow (per request), and went sledding.  We also did a little exploring and found a small cave.  What could have made this dwelling?!  Andi was brave enough to go inside.
The first day of skiing, the kids went to ski school while Dave and I had a date day of skiing on the mountain.  It was a beautiful, sun-shiny day!  We took our time enjoying the day and stopped for a long lunch, eating outside on the deck watching the skiers.
The next two days we planned on skiing with the kids.  Well, we woke up that next morning to a blizzard!  A could-not-see the-hand-in-front-of-your-face, snow-blowing-so-hard Blizzard!  We should not have even attempted to ski, but we were determined to ski with the kids at least one day and the next day's forecast looked equally as bad.  So we bundled up and headed out.  The only positive thing was that no one was on the mountain that day!  Guess were were the only ones crazy enough to get out.  We were so excited to ski with the kids but the snow was so thick that there was not much skiing involved.  More stepping and dragging and walking with skis on.  What a workout and what a bummer.  Well, I had the brilliant idea to ride the lift once more and then try to take a higher lift to get to the blue level runs instead of green.  Well, once we got to the top of the lift, we found out that all of the other lifts were closed due to the high wind speeds.  More dragging, walking, sludging through the very very even more thick powdery snow!  At one point Eastman told me that he could not feel his feet and that his fingers were frozen.  We were all completely frozen.  About halfway down, I decided it would be easier to piggyback Eastman down the mountain rather than pushing him through the thick snow.  Well, that was a waste!  We had a story to tell, but that was about it.  I really wanted to see what they could do and was really looking forward to a fun family ski day.  I am thankful that they had good weather for their day of ski school and mine and Dave's date day, just sad we did not get a family ski day.  Well, we turned in our gear after just an hour of the chill and decided not to ski the next day.  We went back to the house and had a fun family day in the house playing games and singing karaoke.
